The digital future of Kiambu’s youth received a major boost as the Ndumberi Jitume Digital Hub hosted a landmark certification and donation ceremony aimed at strengthening digital skills and expanding opportunities for young people.
The youth event marked a significant milestone for the hub, combining the graduation of ICT trainees with a major technology donation from the Ambassador of the Republic of Romania to Kenya, Gentiana Serbu, who had pledged to donate a fleet of modern computers to the centre.
The donation is expected to significantly enhance the youth hub’s training capacity and enable more students to progress to advanced ICT programmes.
The graduates, made up of youthful men and women from the area, received their ICT Stage 1 certificates recognizing their achievement and readiness to participate in the growing digital economy.
According to the organisers, the training programme is designed to address unemployment by equipping youth with practical ICT skills that can open doors to remote work, entrepreneurship and global opportunities.
Hosted by Kiambu Member of Parliament (MP) Machua Waithaka, the event also highlighted new educational opportunities for local youth. Ambassador Serbu announced scholarship opportunities for students interested in pursuing higher education in Romania, offering a direct pathway for talented learners from Kiambu to access international academic programmes.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, MP Waithaka said the donated computers would play a critical role in strengthening digital literacy and practical ICT training at the hub.
“These computers will greatly enhance the ability of our youth to acquire digital skills and access opportunities in the global marketplace,” he said.
The initiative aligns with the national Jitume programme, which seeks to equip Kenyans with digital competencies needed for online employment, innovation and entrepreneurship.
Among the dignitaries present were Deputy County Commissioner Titus Macharia and Konza Technopolis Director Peter Muchendu, alongside students, parents and residents who turned up to witness the occasion.
Muchendu praised the Ndumberi hub as a model for decentralized digital development, noting that such centres are key to expanding technological access beyond major urban areas.
“Ndumberi is becoming a blueprint for rural digital transformation,” he said.
The atmosphere throughout the youth event reflected optimism and ambition, with community members expressing hope that the enhanced facility would create lasting opportunities for local youth.
As the ceremony came to a close, one message stood out clearly: through strategic partnerships, investment in technology and commitment to education, Kiambu is steadily positioning itself at the heart of Kenya’s expanding “Silicon Savannah.” For the graduates of ICT Stage 1, the journey into the digital future has only just begun.
