Ruto unveils major infrastructure upgrade for Maseno School at 120th anniversary

President William Ruto during celebrations marking 120 years of Maseno School where he announced major infrastructure upgrades, including classrooms, a hostel and ICT support.

President William Ruto has initiated the process of modernising Maseno School, one of the oldest and leading learning institutions attempts to make a major infrastructure upgrade.

The President, who joined the school fraternity, alumni, parents and the Board of Management, pledged to construct a total of 40 classrooms through a joint effort with friends.

He said the new classrooms will accommodate some 1,600 learners moving forward.

President Ruto further announced that the school will benefit from the ongoing affordable housing scheme, where a 2,000-capacity hostel will be erected within the year.

The Head of State told the management that the Sh8 million so far realised through a fund drive will go towards improving the ICT hub.

President Ruto said the government, through the Ministry of Education, will provide the requisite facilities, such as computers.

President Ruto made the remarks when he joined Maseno School in Kisumu in marking 120 years of existence, celebrating the institution’s long history of academic excellence and contribution to nation-building.

The event brought together national and county leaders, alumni, students and education stakeholders at the historic institution, which is among the oldest formal schools in Kenya.

President Ruto was accompanied by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, his Energy counterpart Opiyo Wandayi, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, Anyang’ Nyong’o, Kisumu East MP Shabir Ahmed and Kisumu Central MP Dr Joshua Oron, among other leaders.

Maseno School occupies a significant place in Kenya’s education history as one of the country’s oldest institutions of formal learning.

The anniversary celebrations highlighted the institution’s historical role in shaping generations of Kenyan leaders while reaffirming the importance of education in national development.
