Bomet Central MP Richard Kilel has launched a programme to equip Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) in the constituency with mobile laboratories in a move aimed at strengthening Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education.
Speaking at Chebitet B Comprehensive School in Songowet Ward, Kilel said he had purchased 14 mobile laboratories at a cost of Sh400,000 each to support practical learning in schools.
The legislator said the initiative aims to encourage students to embrace STEM subjects and improve the quality of science education in local schools.
He noted that many institutions lack fully equipped science laboratories, making it difficult for learners to effectively conduct practical lessons under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
Kilel said the mobile laboratories will help bridge the gap by enabling students to carry out experiments and science practicals within their schools.
He added that his goal is to ensure every Junior Secondary School in Bomet Central is equipped with a mobile laboratory to enhance learning and prepare students for careers in science and technology.

The MP urged teachers and learners to make proper use of the equipment to improve academic performance and innovation among students.
School administrators welcomed the initiative, saying the mobile laboratories will significantly ease challenges faced in the teaching of science subjects in JSS.
