Student leaders from various institutions across Bomet county convened at Bomet University for a mentorship program aimed at strengthening youth participation in leadership, governance and civic engagement.
The forum, spearheaded by the Social Justice League (SJL), brought together student representatives led by Bomet University President Ruth Zico, alongside delegates from Longisa KMTC, Sot Technical Training Institute, Konoin Technical Training Institute, Chepalungu Technical Training Institute, and Bomet Central Technical Training Institute.
The engagement focused on key thematic areas shaping modern student leadership, including the transition from campus leadership to national politics and the increasing role of digital platforms in political participation. Participants were also trained on leveraging social media for youth campaigns and civic engagement.
Discussions further explored the impact of digital tools on youth political involvement, best practices for responsible social media use, strategies for combating misinformation online and case studies of successful youth-led digital campaigns.
SJL founder Elizabeth Odondi emphasised the importance of equipping young leaders with practical skills, networks, and ethical grounding to effectively participate in governance spaces. Bomet County Coordinator Stella Seurey urged students to uphold discipline and integrity as they take up leadership roles.
Director of Gender Affairs in Bomet county, Lily Bosire, together with Silibwet OCS John Kinyua, highlighted the importance of inclusive leadership, digital responsibility and peaceful civic participation among the youth.
