The Chief Principal of Bonyunyu Secondary School, Zachary Rioba, has built a strong reputation both in education and public life. Popular among radio listeners and colleagues alike, he is admired for his approachable personality and ability to connect with people from all walks of life.
Rioba wears many hats; educator, administrator, and community advocate,while remaining deeply committed to his role as a custodian of knowledge. He began his teaching career in the early 2000s as a classroom teacher.
Through dedication, discipline, and a passion for nurturing learners, he steadily rose through the ranks to become deputy principal and later Chief Principal. Under his leadership, Bonyunyu Secondary School has recorded notable improvements in academic performance.

Beyond the classroom, Rioba is also a respected radio personality. Through local FM stations, he mentors young people, discusses education issues, and promotes Kisii language and culture, extending his influence far beyond the school environment.
In public life, he is known for his open-door leadership style. He engages freely with parents, boda boda riders, traders, and professionals, earning respect across social and economic divides. Colleagues describe him as firm yet approachable, guided by principles of teamwork and servant leadership.

Speaking to Education News, Rioba described himself as an ordinary individual striving to make an extraordinary impact.
“I am a parent, teacher, and farmer like any other person, but I blend my God-given talents and acquired educational knowledge to benefit both society and myself,” he said.
He expressed a vision of a harmonious society where individuals; teachers, farmers, traders, athletes, and others—coexist and support one another without conflict.

Rioba’s dedication to academic excellence, community service, and cultural preservation has earned him recognition from education stakeholders and county leaders. Many young teachers regard him as both a mentor and role model.
He continues to advocate for quality education, urging stakeholders to invest in infrastructure and human resources. According to him, strong academic performance is achieved through a combination of qualified teachers, disciplined students, supportive parents, and a conducive learning environment.
