Teachers from across Nairobi have today officially launched the Nairobi Metropolitan Teachers Tournament 2026, marking the start of a three-day football competition running from April 26 to 28.
The annual event has attracted 16 teams, all competing for top honours in a highly competitive sporting environment that continues to grow in popularity among educators.
The tournament brings together teachers from different institutions not only to compete but also to strengthen unity and teamwork beyond the classroom.
The organisers say the tournament is designed to promote wellness, mental health and social bonding among teachers, offering them a chance to unwind and showcase their sporting abilities.
The participants are expected to display high levels of discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the competition.
“This tournament goes beyond football. It is about connecting teachers, promoting wellness, and building stronger professional relationships,” said one of the organisers during the opening.
Each participating team paid a registration fee of KSh 4,500, facilitated through KCB Bank, reflecting strong interest in the growing event.
The tournament has also been praised for promoting co-curricular engagement among educators, highlighting the importance of physical activity in maintaining a balanced professional life.
