Two teachers’ houses were destroyed on Thursday following a fire outbreak at Oriwo Boys School in Homa Bay, school authorities have confirmed.
In a statement, the school principal, Tom Amadi, said the incident occurred within the school compound but was swiftly contained, preventing further destruction. No injuries or fatalities were reported.
The cause of the fire had not been immediately established by the time of publication.
Amadi lauded the quick response by members of the local community, who joined efforts to contain the blaze before the arrival of emergency services.
He also commended the Homa Bay County Finance Minister for coordinating the deployment of county fire brigades that helped bring the situation under control.
“The support and unity shown during this incident were commendable,” he said.
Despite the damage, the school administration assured parents and stakeholders that learning had not been disrupted. Classes and co-curricular activities are continuing as scheduled.
