Khetias Supermarket has intensified its corporate social responsibility initiatives after spearheading a charity programme that supported 250 needy pupils from various primary schools across Bungoma County.
The event took place at the KMTC Bungoma Grounds, bringing together pupils, parents, education stakeholders, and community partners in a coordinated effort aimed at improving access to essential learning materials for vulnerable children. The initiative also received support from Manchester United fans, who joined in mobilising resources in solidarity with the programme.
The beneficiaries were provided with school uniforms, school bags, exercise books, and shoes—items aimed at enhancing dignity, boosting school attendance, and improving academic performance among learners from disadvantaged backgrounds.
In addition to the educational support, Khetias Supermarket also provided refreshments during the event. The company donated its own Kabarnet Water alongside soft drinks, including Kabarnet and Frutyka, which were distributed to pupils and attendees.
Speaking during the event, a Khetias Supermarket official, Edward Otieno, said the initiative reflects the retailer’s long-standing commitment to community empowerment through education support.
“We believe that every child deserves dignity in learning. As Khetias Supermarket, we are committed to standing with communities, especially in supporting vulnerable learners. In addition, we also donated our own Kabarnet Water and soft drinks such as Kabarnet and Frutyka to make the occasion more memorable for the children,” said Otieno.
He added that the supermarket remains committed to expanding its outreach programmes to reach more learners across the region as part of its broader corporate social responsibility strategy.
Parents and guardians welcomed the intervention, noting that the support would ease financial burdens that often prevent children from accessing basic school requirements. Teachers described the initiative as timely, saying it would positively impact learner morale and classroom participation.
Education stakeholders in Bungoma County praised the effort, calling on other private sector players to emulate similar programmes that directly benefit vulnerable learners at the grassroots level.
The pupils expressed excitement and gratitude as they received the items, marking a day of relief and renewed motivation in their education journey.
Khetias Supermarket has indicated plans to scale up similar initiatives in future, with a focus on strengthening education support and community development across Bungoma and surrounding regions.
