Musanda Secondary School held a colorful thanksgiving ceremony to honor its retiring principal, Mrs. Phanice Masengeli, while also celebrating the school’s impressive performance in the recent KCSE examinations.

The school recorded commendable results, with five candidates attaining A– grades, the highest being 79 points. Speaking during the event, the principal, Mr. Sila Mbinji, noted that the performance marked a significant milestone after a long period without top grades.

The school achieved a mean score of 6.4 and ranked fourth in Mumias West Sub-County. He further revealed that 120 out of 402 candidates qualified for university, reflecting an improvement in quality grades.

Addressing parents during the ceremony, which also doubled as the school’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), Mr. Mbinji announced a new academic target of a 7.0 mean score. From the current Form Four class of 371 students, the school expects more than 150 to attain the minimum university entry grade.

The principal also highlighted progress in infrastructure development. The school has piped water to several points, addressing a long-standing water shortage. Additionally, construction of a two-storey tuition block is underway to ease congestion, provide departmental offices, and expand administrative space. Six classrooms are also being upgraded with terrazzo flooring.

Further developments include the construction of a modern gate and an ongoing perimeter wall project. However, the school still faces challenges such as the lack of a dining hall, a modern kitchen, and adequate teachers’ housing.

Mr. Mbinji praised the school’s alumni network, noting that many former students are making significant contributions across the country. He acknowledged the support of Justice Antony Ombwayo, a pioneer alumnus, for his moral and material contributions. He urged other alumni to support the school through mentorship and development initiatives.

The school has won numerous trophies in sports and academic competitions at both county and national levels. It currently has over 1,200 students and more than 42 teachers dedicated to teaching and learning.

The principal also commended the Board of Management, led by Chairperson Anne Shiundu and PTA Chair Stephen Misiko, for their commitment to the school’s progress. He noted that the teaching staff remains dedicated to achieving the institution’s academic goals.

He lauded the outgoing principal, Mrs. Masengeli, for her leadership and contributions during her two-year tenure, which saw improvements in both academic performance and infrastructure.

In her remarks, Mrs. Masengeli encouraged students to remain disciplined and work hard to achieve success. She also urged teachers to continue giving their best in shaping students’ futures.
