Dr. Ramari unveils reform agenda in bid for UASU Deputy SG

Dr Sangurah Ramari unveils reform agenda as he vies for UASU Deputy Secretary General, focusing on governance, autonomy and service delivery.

The race for the position of Deputy National Secretary General in the Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) is gaining momentum as Dr Sangurah Ramari, the current Bomet University UASU Chapter Chairperson, rolls out a strategic reform agenda centred on institutional strengthening and improved service delivery to members.

Dr Ramari, who is seeking to elevate his leadership to the national level, has anchored his campaign on the activation of substantive executive committees across the union structure.

He argues that strong, functional committees are key to enhancing coordination, accountability and responsiveness within the organisation.

At the core of his proposal is the push for greater autonomy of executive committees, which he says will allow them to operate independently without unnecessary interference.

According to him, such independence will improve efficiency in decision-making and ensure timely implementation of union resolutions.

He has also emphasized the need for structured financing of the committees, noting that adequate funding is essential for supporting union programs, staff development initiatives, policy engagement and effective representation of members’ interests across universities.

Dr Ramari describes his bid for the Deputy National Secretary General position as part of a broader agenda to restore stability and strengthen governance systems within UASU.

He says his experience at the chapter level has exposed him to the operational challenges facing academic staff and has shaped his reform-driven leadership approach.

The Deputy National Secretary General position plays a key role in coordinating policy implementation, strengthening administrative systems and supporting the national leadership in advancing the welfare of university staff.
