The government through the Ministry of Education has reaffirmed it’s commitment to supporting sports talent identification and development at all levels of learning.
Through the Competency Based Education,it equally recognizes sports as a key component of holistic learning and thus pledges to continue investing in it by strengthening schools sports infrastructure from grassroot to the national stage, thereby ensuring that our learners are well positioned to compete favourably on the global front.
These were sentiments made by Mdm. Martha Odundo, the Early Childhood Development Education Director, when she graced the 2026 KPJSSA National Term One Sports Championship held in Maseno School as the chief guest.
Mdm. Odundo further said that Co-curricular activities such as sports are a vital pillar in education. “They nurture creativity, build confidence and enhance teamwork, thereby promoting physical and mental wellbeing of learners ” she added.
She noted that majority of successful individuals in life only do so,having been empowered with social-emotional skills to help them counter a myriad of life’s challenges -a component she added, is deficient among many youths today, hence their intolerance and frequent wired actions.
The educator challanged parents and other stakeholders to support co- curricular activities in this era of CBE,siting the sports pathway embodied in the Curriculum Design, and which has the ripple effect of producing full professionals at the tail-end of the education prosess.
