Vihiga Friends Senior School delivered a strong statement of intent at the Amani-Peace Clubs National Debating Championship, emerging among the top performers in a highly competitive contest that drew leading schools from across the country.
The championship, organized by Amani Peace Clubs, brought together top student debaters in English, Kiswahili, and French, providing a platform for rigorous intellectual engagement on issues of peace, governance, and social cohesion.
Vihiga Friends stood out with remarkable performances in the language categories. The school’s French team clinched first place nationally, while the Kiswahili team secured second position, underlining its growing stature in debate and public speaking.
The results placed the school among the most consistent performers at the event, with students demonstrating strong argumentation skills, confidence, and teamwork throughout the rounds.

The success adds to the growing profile of the institution under the leadership of senior principal Albert Masiolo. The principal has been instrumental in strengthening both academic and co-curricular programs, positioning the school as a competitive force on the national stage.
Organizers noted that the championship also served as a qualifying platform for the East African level. A total of 100 teams in English, 50 in Kiswahili, and 15 in French advanced to the regional competition, reflecting the scale and quality of participation.
Vihiga Friends’ performance signals its readiness to compete beyond national borders, as attention now turns to the upcoming East African championships.
The Machakos event once again highlighted the critical role of debate in shaping articulate, informed, and socially responsible students, with Vihiga Friends emerging as one of the standout institutions.
