Kaimosi Friends University has taken a significant step toward globalization following the initiation of partnership talks with the Confucius Institute, an affiliate of Donghua University, aimed at introducing Chinese language studies at the institution.

A delegation from the Confucius Institute, led by Li Lihua, was received by the University’s Vice Chancellor, Peter Mwita, where the two parties held discussions centred on areas of mutual academic interest.

Among the key proposals under consideration is the establishment of a Chinese-Swahili language programme, alongside student exchange opportunities within the School of Business and Economics. The partnership is also expected to foster joint research initiatives and academic staff exchange programmes, further strengthening institutional collaboration.

University officials indicated that both parties are working toward signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that will formalize the partnership and guide the implementation process. The programme is projected to commence in September 2026, pending final approvals.

Once operational, the initiative will offer structured Chinese language training from beginner level (Level 1) to advanced proficiency (Level 6). The move is expected to position Kaimosi Friends University as a regional hub for Chinese language and cultural studies, while expanding academic and professional opportunities for both students and faculty.

The development underscores the growing importance of cross-cultural academic partnerships in enhancing global competitiveness within higher education institutions.
