Machakos Schools shine at 2026 KSEF nationals

Machakos County schools have once again stamped their authority on the national stage after a string of stellar performances at the Kenya Science and Engineering Fair (KSEF) 2026 held at Garissa High School.

Leading the celebrations was Kathiani Girls High School, which delivered a truly historic performance by clinching the Overall Most Innovative Project Trophy, one of the most prestigious awards at the national fair.

In addition, the school also emerged the winner in the Most Innovative Project in the Chemistry category, further cementing their dominance in scientific innovation.

The award-winning projects were developed by Ashley Gathoni and Naomi Kanyi, under the guidance of Thomas Munyao, whose mentorship proved instrumental in the double victory.

In Matungulu Sub-county, it was a double triumph of innovation as Kwatombe Junior School and Sengani Girls High School delivered outstanding wins.

Kwatombe JS emerged Position one as the Most Innovative in Technology and Engineering, setting a national benchmark among junior learners.

Meanwhile, Sengani Girls High School showcased exceptional brilliance by clinching Position one in Research-Based Robotics, highlighting the growing strength of STEM among girls in the region.

Also flying the Machakos flag high was St. Michael’s Kabaa Boys High School, who delivered an impressive performance at the national level, emerging Position two in the Physics category under the guidance of their patron, Philip Ngumu.

In addition, Tala SA Junior Secondary School made the county proud after securing an impressive Position six nationally in the Biological Sciences category, showcasing the rising standards in junior secondary education.

Despite the intense heat of Garissa, the students demonstrated resilience, creativity, and determination, qualities that continue to position Machakos County as a powerhouse in science and innovation.
