Chuka University Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof. Henry Mutembei has received widespread praise from lecturers and students alike, following revelations that part-time lecturers at the institution have been paid all their dues in full and on time.

The commendation comes after a two-day online conversation highlighting frustrations faced by part-time lecturers in various universities, particularly over delayed payments and limited access to top management.

In a surprising turn, several part-time lecturers from Chuka University reached out to confirm that they have received every coin owed to them, with no pending arrears.

While timely payment of lecturers may appear routine, stakeholders note that it sets Chuka University apart at a time when many institutions are grappling with financial constraints and staff unrest.

The observers point out that this financial discipline is one of the reasons the university was not affected by the recent lecturers’ strike that disrupted learning in other institutions.

Beyond financial management, Prof. Mutembei’s leadership style has also drawn admiration for its accessibility.

The students have consistently shared experiences describing the Vice Chancellor as approachable and readily available for dialogue, sometimes more accessible than certain departmental heads.

During the recent cultural week celebrations, students reported that Prof. Mutembei remained actively engaged with them until 11:00 p.m., interacting freely and participating in activities.

The gesture has been interpreted as a strong show of solidarity and commitment to student welfare.

Education stakeholders say the VC is redefining leadership in higher education by striking a rare balance between administrative authority and approachability.

Traditionally, vice chancellors have been viewed as distant figures, but Prof. Mutembei appears to be challenging that notion.

At the same time, Chuka University is undergoing significant infrastructural expansion, with ongoing development and major construction projects signaling steady institutional growth.

For many within the university community, the combination of fiscal responsibility, student-centered leadership, and visible development reflects a model of visionary stewardship.

Indeed, for his efforts in fostering stability, accessibility and growth at Chuka University, Prof. Henry Mutembei is earning what many describe as a well-deserved bouquet of roses.
