Funyula town was filled with jubilation as students of St. Cecilia Nangina Girls took to the streets in celebration following the school’s elevation from C2 to C1 status—officially earning recognition as a National School.
The milestone places St. Cecilia Nangina Girls among an elite group of institutions in Busia County, joining Butula Boys High School, Kolanya Girls’ High School, Nambale Boys High School, and St. Stephen Lwanya Girls as newly designated national schools.
The Chief Principal, Dr. Judith Okanda, lauded the Ministry of Education for the recognition, terming it a significant milestone in the school’s journey.

“We are a premier institution in the Western Region with a rich history of exemplary performance in both academics and co-curricular activities. We graciously welcome this new status,” she stated.
Dr. Okanda further noted that the elevation would serve as a strong motivation for both staff and students to strive for even greater excellence, while also boosting student enrolment and enhancing the self-esteem of the learners.
Excitement swept through the student body as news of the upgrade broke. The learners expressed pride in their institution, affirming their readiness to embrace the responsibilities that come with being a national school.
The Ministry of Education elevated three schools in the Western Region, namely St. Cecilia Misikhu Girls in Bungoma County, Archbishop Njenga Girls in Kakamega County, and St. Cecilia Nangina Girls in Busia County.

Madam Tracy Wamukoya, a renowned speaker and teacher at the school, also expressed gratitude to the Ministry for the recognition.
“Teaching in a premier institution is a great honor. We are delighted to now compete at the national level rather than the county level. We commit ourselves to working even harder to meet the expectations that come with this new status,” she said.
She further assured the school leadership of their dedication:
“We promise our Chief Principal that we will not let her down.”
While acknowledging that the new status comes with increased expectations and challenges, the school community remains optimistic and ready to rise to the occasion.
