740 positions up for grabs as TSC announces recruitment drive for secretariat staff

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has set March 18 as the start date for interviews to fill hundreds of internal vacancies within its Secretariat. The exercise, which will run until the end of the month, follows the release of invitation letters to qualified officers who applied under the Career Progression Guidelines for Secretariat Staff, 2023. In total, the Commission is seeking to fill 740 positions across different grades, making this one of the largest internal recruitment drives in its history.

At the senior level, the Commission is recruiting Senior Deputy Directors in key areas including Human Resource Management and Development, Internal Audit, Operations, Teacher Management for Regional Directors, and Administrative Services. These positions, graded at level 4, carry a total of nine vacancies. Deputy Director posts, graded at level 5, are also available in Administrative Services for both the Chairman’s and Secretary’s offices, Human Resource Management and Development, Legal Services, Internal Audit, Risk Management, Policy Planning, Supply Chain Management, and Teacher Management for County Directors. Altogether, these Deputy Director roles account for 17 vacancies.

The Assistant Director cadre, graded at level 6, represents the largest share of openings. The Commission is seeking officers in Office Administration, Administrative Services for Commissioners’ offices, Finance, Accounts, Record Management, Counselling, Teacher Professional Management, Staffing, Teacher Discipline Management, Human Resource Management, Legal Services, Labour and Industrial Relations, Internal Audit, ICT Information Security, ICT Systems, Risk Management, Corporate Communications, Public Relations, Policy Planning, and Teacher Management in the field. The Teacher Management (Field) category alone carries 269 vacancies, underscoring the Commission’s emphasis on strengthening its grassroots presence. In total, Assistant Director positions account for more than 330 openings.

Principal Officer positions, graded at level 7, are also part of the recruitment. These include Finance, Accounting, Record Management, Human Resource Management, Legal, Internal Audit, ICT Systems Development, ICT Hardware and Infrastructure Administration, Risk Management, Supply Chain Management, and Office Administration. Collectively, these roles add up to 62 vacancies. At grade 10, Officer II positions are available for Senior Clerical Officers, Security staff, and Chief Drivers, with 163 slots to be filled.

The Assistant Officer cadre, graded at level 11, rounds off the recruitment exercise with positions in Clerical Officer I, Customer Care, Senior Driver, Senior Security Warden, and Senior Office Assistant. The Senior Office Assistant category alone accounts for 117 vacancies, reflecting the Commission’s need for robust administrative support. Altogether, Assistant Officer roles contribute 162 positions to the tally.

By the close of the exercise, the Teachers Service Commission will have filled 740 vacancies across its Secretariat. The recruitment is expected to enhance efficiency in administration, strengthen audit and risk management, and expand teacher management services nationwide.

Shortlisted candidates will be required to present their original identification, transcripts, and professional certificates during the interviews.
