Public Service and Human Capital Development Cabinet Secretary (CS) Geoffrey Ruku on Friday, March 13, launched a School Feeding Program in Mwala, Kangundo and Machakos Town constituencies, in Machakos County.

The initiative aims to provide nutritious meals to learners in order to boost school attendance, improve concentration in class, and enhance academic performance.

Speaking at Kimutwa in Machakos, the CS said the program is part of broader efforts to support vulnerable learners and strengthen education in the area.

“Our children in schools will have enough food beginning this Monday. There will also be food support for residents until the time you will harvest your crops,” said Ruku who said he had received the directive from the President.

The CS at the same time warned all public officers tasked with distributing relief food against diverting it for sale at the expense of vulnerable households who are struggling to put food on the table.

Kangundo Constituency MP Fabian Kyule, on his part, thanked the government for the school feeding programme in the region saying that this would keep pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds in school.

“I thank the government for bringing this relief food to public schools in my constituency saying it will improve educational outcome ,increase retention of learners and improve tge overall well-being of the children,” lawmaker added.

The MP who is also a lawyer noted that this will help majority of the children to go to school comfortably because they are assured of a food at lunch time and will not skip school due to lack of food.
