The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has rescheduled its national elections to April 2026 following changes in branch election timelines across the country.

The announcement was made through a circular dated March 9, 2026, issued by the union’s Secretary General, Akelo Misori.

According to the notice, the union’s National Elections will now take place from April 4 to April 18, 2026, during a Special Delegates Conference scheduled to be held at the Kasarani Gymnasium in Nairobi.

The circular served as an addendum to an earlier notice that had been issued on January 5, 2026, regarding the planned elections.

KUPPET explained that the adjustment was necessary after several branch elections experienced disruptions.

Some of the branch polls were delayed, repeated, or aborted due to court cases and other challenges that affected the union’s electoral calendar.

As a result, the leadership found it necessary to revise the national election schedule to ensure all branches are properly represented in the voting process.

In the notice addressed to all qualified delegates, the union invited interested candidates to apply for nomination forms from the Secretary General’s office.

Delegates wishing to contest various national leadership positions are required to collect the forms and pay the prescribed nomination fees before the close of business on March 16, 2026.

The upcoming elections will determine individuals who will occupy several key leadership positions within the union, including the national chairperson, national vice chairperson, secretary general, deputy secretary general, national treasurer, assistant national treasurer, national secretary for gender, national secretary for tertiary institutions, national secretary for secondary schools, national organising secretary and other assistant national leadership roles.

The notice was also copied to the Commissioner for Labour and the Registrar of Trade Unions to ensure compliance with legal requirements governing trade union elections in Kenya.

As one of the country’s largest teachers’ unions representing educators in secondary schools and other post-primary institutions, KUPPET’s national elections are expected to play an important role in shaping the union’s leadership and its future engagement with the government on issues affecting teachers and the education sector.
