Bomet County’s Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) branch has concluded its highly contested elections at Bomet Teachers College, bringing a mix of continuity and new leadership to the teachers’ union.
The polls, keenly followed by members, saw spirited contests for key positions, reflecting the active participation and engagement of educators in the county.
In the race for Executive Secretary, incumbent Paul Kimeto retained his position with 1,471 votes, narrowly defeating Peter Kipkirui Bett, the immediate former vice chairperson, who garnered 1,433 votes.
Kimeto expressed gratitude to members for their trust and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing teachers’ welfare, improving branch administration and ensuring transparency in union operations.

Bett, on his part, released a gracious statement thanking the electorate for participating, expressing respect for the outcome, and pledging to continue supporting the branch’s growth.
“Thank you to all members for participating in the election. I respect the outcome and congratulate the winner. I will continue to support our branch’s growth,” Bett said, signaling a smooth transition and unity among teachers.
The chairmanship race was equally competitive. Emmanuel Ngeno emerged victorious with 1,083 votes, narrowly defeating Bismarck Ronoh, who received 1,045 votes.
The incumbent chairman, Ernest Kirui, finished third.
Ngeno expressed his appreciation to members for their support and emphasized his agenda for strengthening member representation, enhancing professional development programs, and ensuring that teachers’ voices are heard at all levels.
“I am deeply honored by this mandate. My priority is to unite members and champion initiatives that will improve education standards and welfare for teachers in Bomet County,” Ngeno stated.
In other key positions, Zephania Yebei was elected treasurer, a role that will see him oversee financial stewardship and accountability for the branch.
