President William Ruto orders employment for the sister of Carlos Keter, a victim of the Nandi County helicopter crash, and pledges support to other affected families during a joint funeral in Narok.

The president directs employment for relatives of victims during the Narok joint funeral, saying the late teacher Carlos Keter died before receiving his first salary.

President William Ruto has approved the employment of a relative of the late Carlos Keter to take up the teaching position he secured shortly before his death.

Carlos was among the victims of the Nandi County helicopter crash that claimed the lives of five other people, including Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ngeno.

He passed away only days after being appointed to a permanent teaching position by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

Speaking during a joint funeral service for the victims in Narok on Friday, March 6, Ruto noted that Carlos died before receiving his first salary.

The president explained that the teaching position would now be offered to one of Carlos’ sisters, who is also a qualified teacher. Ruto further revealed that Carlos had previously worked in his office.

“He just got a letter of employment as a teacher. We now say that the letter be given to his sister. We understand that he died before getting his first salary,” the president said.

Carlos had secured the job in January this year after years of unsuccessfully searching for employment. He had earlier credited the breakthrough to MP Johana Ngeno, thanking him for supporting his employment despite their political differences.

Carlos described the MP’s intervention as a great honour and a sign of confidence in his abilities. After receiving the appointment, he pledged to serve with dedication and professionalism, promising to deliver excellence in his duties while working closely with stakeholders in the education sector.

Besides Keter’s case, President Ruto also directed that the widow of another crash victim, Wycliffe Rono, be offered employment.

He instructed Head of Public Service Felix Kosgei to ensure that Rono’s widow is recruited into the Ministry of Agriculture, citing her academic qualifications in the agricultural field.

The president said the job would enable her to support her family and help fill the gap left by her late husband.

Ruto also pledged to take responsibility for educating a dependent of another victim, Amos Rotich, who until his death worked as a ranger with the Kenya Forest Service (KFS).

Before the tragedy, Rotich had been paying school fees for his brother who studies at Kisii University. The president promised to take over the responsibility.

For the family of Nicholas Kosgei, another victim of the crash, Ruto assured them that the government would intervene and help resolve the land disputes that have been affecting them.
