Fresh leadership as Gathoni wins KUPPET Laikipia Secretary-General seat

New blood in the Laikipia Branch of Kuppet after Hellen Gathoni won the executive secretary position with 750 votes toppling the incumbent Robert Miano with 427 votes.

In the contest the executive position had attracted four candidates with others being Kinyua Mwangi  who polled 227 votes and Wachira Gichachi with  33 votes.

In the chairman’s position, Edwin Akoyi won with 602 votes, followed by Jediel Kimathi with 499 votes, Peter Gaithi with 218 votes, and Stephen Njau with 118 votes.

Gathoni, in her acceptance speech, pleaded with the work for the interest of the teachers to ensure there is fairness and adherence to the rule of law.

“I will represent the teachers as my position demands,” she said amid celebration from her supporters.

The vice chairman, Joseph Gachiani, polled 570 votes, JSS Representative Jared Kanyimbo  820 votes, and Gender Secretary Elizabeth Gakungu  567 votes.
