The Kenya Post Primary Teachers’ Union (KUPPET) Trans Nzoia branch elections of 2026 were marked by high voter turnout and a peaceful, democratic process.

A total of over 3,600 teachers participated in the elections, casting their ballots for new leaders who will steer the union’s direction over the next term.

The elections saw a range of competitive positions, from Chairman to Treasurer and various secretariat roles. Julius Korir, the Vice National Secretary of KUPPET, was on hand to observe the exercise and commended the orderly conduct of the election.

Korir highlighted the calm, cooperative atmosphere among voters, noting that despite the highly contested races, the elections were free of disturbances or violence.

The 3,600-plus teachers who participated in the election demonstrated their strong commitment to the democratic process and the union’s future.

The turnout not only showed the active engagement of KUPPET members but also underscored the importance teachers place on electing leaders who will effectively represent their interests.

“This election has been an impressive display of democratic participation. The turnout has been tremendous, and I am pleased to see teachers so engaged in shaping their future,” said Korir.

Korir also praised the overall peace and transparency that characterised the election, drawing comparisons with similar elections held in other counties such as Taita Taveta, Murang’a, and Samburu.

Across all these regions, the election process proceeded smoothly, with no incidents of violence or unrest.

“The KUPPET election process has remained transparent and fair throughout the country. The teachers in Trans Nzoia, along with those in other branches, have shown that they understand the importance of peaceful participation in electing their leaders,” Korir added.

The election saw several key positions contested, with Paul Weyama emerging as the new Chairman, Ken Prichani elected Treasurer, and Kutai Dan elected Executive Secretary.

The other elected leaders include Francis Wanyoike (Organising Secretary), Cecilia Nasimiyu (Secretary, Secondary Schools), and Verah Eyase (Assistant Treasurer), among others.

The newly elected leaders are now tasked with addressing key issues affecting teachers in the region, including improved working conditions, better pay, and maintaining post-primary education standards.

Korir emphasised that with the successful election behind them, KUPPET Trans Nzoia is now poised for a new chapter under its newly elected leadership.

The participation of over 3,600 voters and the peaceful nature of the election give strong hope for continued progress in the region’s educational landscape.

As the new leaders take office, KUPPET members are hopeful that their voices will be heard and that their challenges will be addressed. The union’s new leadership is expected to advocate for better resources and support for teachers, as well as champion the rights and welfare of educators across Kenya.
