Bomet County basketball champions Kaplong Boys High School have kicked off their title defence in emphatic fashion after emerging winners in the Sotik Sub-County Secondary School Term One games held at their home ground.
The hosts displayed dominance and discipline, clinching the basketball title on a round-robin basis to once again stamp their authority in the region.
Kaplong topped the standings with 6 points, followed by Moi Minariet with 4 points, while Chebilat finished third with 2 points. The convincing performance underlined Kaplong’s preparedness and hunger to retain the county crown.
The school did not stop at basketball glory. Kaplong also successfully defended its sub-county handball title, proving its growing reputation as a sporting powerhouse.
In the handball final, Kaplong convincingly defeated Motiret 15–5. Earlier in the semifinals, Kaplong edged out Chebilat 7–5, while Motiret narrowly beat Akshar 2–1 to book their place in the final.
As Sotik Sub-County representatives, Kaplong will now shift its focus to the highly anticipated Bomet County Secondary School Games, scheduled for March 4–6 at the Mulot High School grounds.
In basketball, they are set to face stiff competition from traditional rivals including Tenwek High School (Bomet Central), Kimulot Boys High School (Konoin), Mulot Boys High School (Bomet East) and Olbutyo Boys High School (Chepalungu).

In handball, Kaplong will battle it out against Mogoma Secondary School (Bomet East), Chepchabas Day (Konoin), Tenwek High School (Bomet Central) and Tebeswet Secondary School (Chepalungu).
School Senior Principal Paul Langat lauded the teams for their discipline, teamwork and determination. He noted that the victories reflect not only talent but also hard work, proper mentorship and a strong sporting culture within the institution. He expressed confidence that the teams will represent Sotik with pride at the county level and urged them to remain focused, humble and committed.
Kaplong Boys High School continues to raise the bar in both academics and co-curricular activities, setting a shining example in Bomet County.
