Construction of classrooms at Bomet High School in Bomet is progressing well, a recent inspection has revealed.
The new school is a fulfilment of a pledge made by William Ruto after area residents appealed for the establishment of a town secondary school.
Area Member of Parliament Richard Kilel expressed satisfaction with the progress, saying the project will significantly improve access to education while creating employment opportunities for local residents.
“This is a historic moment for Bomet. For many years, this was the only town in the region without a secondary school within the town,” Kilel said during a visit to the construction site. “It was a worrying situation that forced our children to travel long distances in search of education.”
The MP noted that the project had previously faced delays due to what he termed as politicisation, which slowed the release of funds.
“Unfortunately, the project was politicised, and that delayed the disbursement of funds. However, we are now back on track, and the construction is moving at a commendable pace,” he said.
Kilel assured residents that quality standards would not be compromised and urged them to take ownership of the project.
“I call upon the local community to closely monitor the construction works. This school belongs to you, and together we must ensure it meets the highest standards,” he added.

The legislator also pledged to oversee the upgrading of Bomet Primary School, where five classrooms were destroyed during the construction of a nearby road.
“We are committed to restoring and upgrading Bomet Primary School to ensure learners have a conducive environment,” Kilel said.
On infrastructure, Kilel promised that the expansion of the Kapkwen–Sachora road would begin soon, expressing confidence that ongoing development projects would address concerns raised by his critics.
Residents have welcomed the establishment of the new school, saying it will ease the burden of sending their children far from home for secondary education.
“This school will save us transport costs and give our children a chance to study near home,” said one resident. “We are grateful that the promise has been fulfilled.”
