The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has issued a directive requiring all County Directors to develop, maintain, and regularly update a comprehensive database of teachers who excel in mainstream co-curricular activities within their respective jurisdictions.

In a communication from the TSC Director of Staffing Antonina Lentoijoni, the Commission emphasized that the database will serve as an official reference tool to support planning, recognition, and other teacher management interventions.

“Compliance with the directive is mandatory, and County Directors are required to ensure that accurate records are readily available for submission to the Commission upon request,” the statement read.

The directive will take effect in 2026, with updates to be conducted annually thereafter.

According to the Commission, the database must capture teachers who demonstrate excellence in mainstream co-curricular activities at various levels of participation and competition, including Sub-County, County, Regional, National, and East Africa levels.

The records should categorize teachers by discipline, education level, role, and level of participation.

The specified co-curricular disciplines include sports, drama and film, music, and the Kenya Science and Engineering Fair.

TSC further underscored the importance of maintaining data that is accurate, complete, current, and verifiable to ensure reliability and accountability in the management of teacher recognition and deployment initiatives.

County offices have been directed to maintain and update the database annually and submit the required records to the Commission whenever called upon to do so.
