The Gem NG-CDF has awarded bursaries worth 24.4 million to bright but needy students in the area. During the event at Wagai, bursary cheques were given to parents and guardians of secondary school students in the Constituency.
The funds were given to children studying in various schools across the country.
According to the area Member of the National Assembly Elisha Odhaimbo, most of the beneficiaries are those studying in Gem constituency.
“Education remains my key priority in the quest to make our constituency a better place,” he said.
Odhiambo said that the bursary will benefit students at secondary schools, colleges, and universities.
The MP called on parents and guardians who are unable to fund their children’s education not to deny their children opportunities to acquire knowledge, as the bursary, funded by the national government, was available.
“Parents should not lock the children at home because of a lack of fees. Come to my office,” he said.

He expressed his commitment to ensuring that the Gem constituency reclaimed its position as the citadel of education in the region.
Odhiambo urged parents and education stakeholders to support the government’s efforts to achieve universal access to education by ensuring that all children go to school.
Odhiambo presided over the event, which was attended by hundreds of local people.
The Wagai event also marked Odhiambo’s ongoing advocacy for equitable development and his call for political leaders to prioritise progress and inclusivity over division.
Earlier, Odhiambo affirmed that no needy student will be left out of the scheme, since it is meant to empower them.
He cautioned his opponents against politicising the issue, noting that education and politics are strange bedfellows.
The beneficiaries were drawn from all the wards: North Gem, Central Gem, Yala Township, East Gem, South Gem, and West Gem.
