The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has distanced itself from a fake message circulating online and purportedly addressed to educators, warning teachers and examination officials to remain vigilant against misinformation.

The fabricated post, widely shared on social media platforms and messaging apps, falsely claims to be an official communication from KNEC regarding appreciation, delayed payments and a supposed 3 per cent pay increase for contracted examination professionals.

KNEC has confirmed that the message did not originate from the council and should be treated as fake news.

Educators have been urged not to rely on unofficial sources or agents claiming to speak on behalf of KNEC.

The council emphasized that all legitimate communication is issued through its verified channels, including official circulars, press statements and its website.

The spread of such misinformation has raised concern within the education sector, particularly at a time when teachers are keenly following issues related to examination administration and payments.

Authorities warn that fake news not only causes confusion but also undermines trust in public institutions.

Teachers and members of the public are encouraged to verify information before sharing and to report suspicious content.

The message is clear: do not be deceived—always confirm information from official sources.
