Education stakeholders in Webuye East Sub County have expressed concern after data revealed that only 66 per cent of Grade 10 boys have reported back to school, compared to 99 per cent of girls, raising fears of increased absenteeism and possible dropouts among male learners.
Webuye East Deputy County Commissioner Joyce Onguso said the government would take firm action against parents who have failed to ensure their children return to school, particularly boys.
She reiterated that the Ministry of Education had issued clear directives requiring all learners to report to school irrespective of their ability to pay school fees or access official uniforms.
The Deputy County Commissioner further directed local administrators, including chiefs, to conduct intensified operations to identify learners who remain at home and facilitate their immediate return to school.

Onguso also confirmed that her office has launched investigations into allegations that some school heads in the constituency have been sending students away from school to source construction materials, including bricks.
She termed the practice illegal and exploitative, noting that infrastructure development in public schools is funded through government channels, including the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF).
She warned that any education officials found culpable will face disciplinary and legal action in accordance with the law.
