Over 650 Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centres in Kisii County received milk distributed by the County under the Free Milk distribution programme, aimed at boosting the learners enrolment and education in the county.
Parents expressed happiness after witnessing their children receiving milk in the first day of distribution on Monday, saying that the programme will attract many pupils to enroll to school as others doubted it sustained continuity.
According to the spot check done by Education News, all of the 697 ECDE centres received the milk that was ferried and delivered with the help of the contracted bodaboda riders.
In Masige West, Bobasi Constituency the exercise was led by area MCA Jacob Bagaka who urged parents, teachers and pupils to have confidence in Governor Simba Arati’s leadership as he is determined to fulfil the pledges he made to Wananchi during the campaigns.

“We are set to deliver all that we pledged, yours is to bring children to school to enjoy drinking milk.” He said.
Bagaka who is the Kisii County minority leader asked young parents to avoid indulging in drinking of alcohol, instead invest in the provision of quality education to their children who will support them at their old age.
Other areas where the exercise went on successfully include Endereti and Magena primary schools in Bokimonge and Bombaba Wards respectively of Bomachoge Borabu Constituency.
The parents commended the Governor for the initiative, urging him to make it a lasting solution instead of being a seasonal programme in order to support more children who cannot attend early education due to hunger.
