Parents of St. Bhakita Chuka Girls’ High School in Tharaka Nithi County staged a protest on Friday, demanding the immediate removal of Principal Joan Muchena over allegations of poor performance, misconduct and poor leadership.

The demonstration began at the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Director’s office before moving to the school grounds, where parents carried placards and chanted slogans, insisting the principal must leave for the sake of their children’s welfare.

Among the grievances raised was an incident in which the principal allegedly assaulted a teacher, a move parents say has instilled fear among staff and tarnished the school’s reputation. Parents also accused her of silencing concerns raised in their WhatsApp group by ordering its closure, effectively blocking communication between stakeholders.

Another complaint centered on what parents described as an unusually high rate of teacher transfers, which they believe has disrupted learning and denied students stability in their education. Concerns were also raised about reports that students are compelled to bow before a religious statue, a practice many parents view as inappropriate and against their beliefs.

“We want a safe learning environment where teachers are respected, students are free from coercion, and parents can participate in school matters without intimidation,” one parent said during the protest.

The parents vowed to continue pressing for action until the TSC responds to their concerns. Community leaders have since urged dialogue to resolve the matter peacefully while safeguarding the interests of learners.
