MP Rindikiri urges parents to engage youth in fight against drug abuse, teenage pregnancies

Buuri Member of Parliament (MP) Mugambi Rindikiri has called on parents and guardians to keep young people engaged in constructive activities as a way of combating social vices such as teenage pregnancies and drug abuse.

Speaking during the launch of the Talanta Hela programme, Rindikiri urged the youth to embrace positive pursuits that foster social and economic growth.

“We must keep our young people engaged in positive and productive activities if we are to win the fight against teenage pregnancies and drug abuse,” he said.

The MP highlighted the Buuri Constituency ICT Hub, which has been equipped with computers and internet connectivity to help young people acquire digital monetization skills. He noted that the facility will enable them to learn how to earn online and improve their livelihoods.

“We have fully equipped the Buuri Constituency ICT Hub with computers and internet to enable our young people to acquire digital monetization skills and earn a living online,” Rindikiri said.

The event attracted more than 650 youths who showcased talents in fashion design, creative wear, painting, music, spoken word, gymnastics and poetry. Each participant received an award in recognition of their skills, a gesture aimed at encouraging and rewarding talent.

Nominated MP Dorothy Muthoni, who attended the event, congratulated the participants and urged them to harness their talents as a source of income and sustainable livelihoods. On her part, Carol Rindikiri, the spouse of the Buuri MP, encouraged the youth to remain passionate and committed to developing their abilities, stressing that consistency and dedication can transform skills into meaningful opportunities.
