The Public Service Commission (PSC) has begun a countrywide recruitment exercise for vocational and technical instructors, announcing 1,000 teaching vacancies in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions under the Ministry of Education’s State Department for Vocational and Technical Training.
In a notice issued on December 16, the Commission said the positions are spread across numerous TVET institutions nationwide. Of the advertised vacancies, 600 posts are reserved for trainers with a degree or Higher National Diploma, while 400 positions are for Diploma holders.
The recruitment will be conducted across all regions, including major urban centres and counties that have historically had limited access to technical training facilities.
Counties recording the highest number of vacancies include Nairobi (47 posts), Kakamega (46), Meru (45), Bungoma (41) and Uasin Gishu (38). Other counties with significant opportunities include Nakuru (37), Kiambu (34), and both Kisii and Kisumu with 30 vacancies each.
PSC also noted that the recruitment extends to remote and arid regions, with Turkana County advertising nine vacancies across four TVET institutions. Mandera has 10 posts, Wajir 11, and Garissa 8, distributed among several institutions.
Some 24 TVET institutions are each hiring up to 10 trainers, accounting for a substantial share of the total vacancies. These institutions include several National Polytechnics and large Technical Training Institutes.
In Bungoma County, Bungoma National Polytechnic, Kisiwa Technical Training Institute and Matili Technical Training Institute are among those recruiting 10 trainers each. In Western Kenya, Shamberere National Polytechnic and Sigalagala National Polytechnic in Kakamega, alongside Kaimosi Friends National Polytechnic in Vihiga, are also seeking the maximum number of students.
Institutions in Central and Eastern Kenya include Kiambu National Polytechnic, Thika Technical Training Institute, Karumo Technical Training Institute, Meru National Polytechnic and Nkabune Technical Training Institute. At the Coast, Kenya Coast National Polytechnic in Mombasa is also part of the exercise.
