A section of teachers in Migori County have threatened to boycott the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education (Kuppet) elections on January 10, 2026 over a change of venue.
The teachers, who claimed that they were never consulted about the venue change, vowed to boycott the elections if their concerns were not addressed.
They said the Kuppet national office did not provide a reason for moving the venue from Migori Teachers’ Training College (TTC) to Awendo Stadium in Awendo town.
“Kuppet elections have always been conducted at Migori TTC,” said Catherine Awino, a teacher.
The teachers cited lack of social amenities, such as electricity, washrooms, and adequate security, at the new venue selected by the Kuppet national office.
Moreover, they said Awendo Stadium was not a central location for the elections.

“Some of the teachers who wish to participate in the county Kuppet polls may not be able to attend because of the distance, especially those from Nyatike, Kuria East and Kuria West sub-counties,” lamented Kevin Mijungu.
They claimed that Awendo has been known for violence and that conducting the election there would jeopardise the credibility of the same election.
“The TTC has been used numerous times and the location is also a county tallying centre for the General Election,” Mijungu stated.
