A defining chapter has begun at Maasai Mara University following the official technical site handover of a landmark student accommodation project that promises to reshape the institution’s infrastructure and elevate the student experience for years to come.
The ceremony drew a powerful delegation of government officials, technical experts, consultants, and community stakeholders—led by Narok North MP Agnes Pareyio Mantaine, who presided over the handover with firm assurance of the national government’s support.
The University’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peninah Aloo-Obudho, stood at the forefront of the event, flanked by an experienced management team including Prof. James Nampushi, Prof. Francis Mburu, Samuel Partoip, Mohamed A. Adan, and Paul Sankale. Their collective presence signaled the institution’s readiness to usher in a new era of infrastructural growth.
The ambitious project will deliver 1,260 modern hostel units designed to comfortably house 5,040 students—a major boost to a university whose student population has continued to expand steadily.
Valued at Ksh 522 million, the construction is slated to take 18 months, though the contractor, Dama Services Ltd, committed to completing the work in just 14 months, a pledge that sparked optimism across the gathering.
Beyond the living spaces, the project incorporates essential utilities: a new borehole to strengthen the University’s water supply and a 700,000-litre underground water reservoir, ensuring sustainability and reliability for future generations of students.
During the handover discussions, stakeholders emphasized the importance of accountability, transparency, and strict adherence to the project timelines.

They also highlighted a key priority—creating economic opportunities for local residents. Skilled and unskilled youth from the surrounding communities are expected to benefit from employment, while local businesses will gain from procurement of services and materials during the construction period.
The development marks a significant stride in Maasai Mara University’s growth trajectory. As accommodation has increasingly become a challenge for learners, this project offers a timely and strategic solution—one that will contribute to student stability, academic focus, and overall welfare.
With the project now officially launched, the contractor is expected to mobilize on-site within 14 days, setting the stage for visible progress in the coming weeks.
In many ways, this milestone symbolizes more than a construction effort—it reflects the University’s relentless pursuit of excellence, expansion, and service to its community. For students, staff, and the broader Narok region, the project stands as a beacon of progress and a testament to what strategic collaboration can achieve.
