The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has mourned the death of one of its examiners taking part in the ongoing Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) marking exercise.

Nicodemus Mutua Mutuku, a team leader for the Creative Arts and Sports paper, passed away on Monday morning at Machakos Girls High School, where he had been stationed since the marking began on November 7, 2025.

In a statement released by KNEC Chief Executive Officer Dr. David Njengere, the council described the late Mutuku as a dedicated, diligent and highly experienced examiner who had offered exemplary service to the country’s education system for many years.

Before the transition to the Competency-Based Education (CBE) system, Mutuku had served as a KCPE examiner under the then Kenya Certificate of Primary Education framework.

KNEC has sent its sympathies to the family, friends, colleagues and fellow examiners of the late educator during this difficult time.
