A middle-aged teacher marking the Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment exams at Machakos Girls High School has died after reportedly taking committing suicide.
The teacher, whose identity was not immediately revealed, is said to have hanged himself with a rope within the school compound.
Machakos County Police Commander Nzioka Singi confirmed the incident, noting that the motive behind the suicide remains unclear.
According to police, the teacher had been marking exams alongside colleagues when he requested permission to step outside.
Moments later, his body was found hanging from a tree near the marking room.
“It has not been established why the teacher committed suicide. His colleagues say he asked to step out for a bit only to be found dead,”said the police boss.
The body has since been moved to the Machakos Level 5 Hospital mortuary as investigations get underway.
