Meru County Drinks and Alcoholic Control Board Chief Executive Officer Gitonga Akubu has warned bar owners and alcohol traders against selling alcohol to minors.

The Meru County Drinks and Alcoholic Control Board has warned bar owners and traders against selling alcohol to minors and vowed to revoke the licenses of those found flouting the directive.

The board Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Gitonga Akubu, said it is illegal for bar operators and alcohol traders to sell alcoholic beverages to minors under the age of 18.

Speaking to the media in Meru town, Gitonga emphasised that the board will take strict action against any trader found selling alcohol to underage children.

He vowed to ensure that the directive is followed to the letter throughout the county, noting that children must be given ample time to study without unnecessary distractions.

“It is illegal to sell alcohol to minors. No bar owner or trader is allowed to sell alcohol to children. Those found violating the law will have their operating licenses revoked immediately,” said the CEO.

He noted that the directive is in line with Meru County Governor Isaav Mutuma’s efforts to restore order and responsibility within the alcohol industry.

Gitonga stated that the county government is determined to maintain discipline in the sector and ensure that alcohol consumption is properly regulated.

He said that as Meru town prepares to achieve city status, it must uphold high standards of conduct, noting that the leadership will not allow Meru to become a county of drunkards.
