Parents in Elgeyo Marakwet have been urged to prioritize their children’s education as a key pathway to securing a better future. Fr. Nicholas Kiptoo of Merkwo Catholic Parish emphasized the vital role of education in transforming lives and communities.

“Education is the greatest equalizer. It doesn’t matter where a child comes from — once educated, their opportunities expand immensely,” said Fr. Kiptoo.

Speaking in Kapsowar, he reminded parents that education is not just a privilege but a constitutional right for every child in Kenya.

“No child in Kenya should miss school. It is their right, and as parents and leaders, we must ensure that right is upheld,” he added.

Fr. Kiptoo also encouraged parents to be open to opportunities that allow their children to study abroad, stressing the benefits of global exposure.

“We must allow our children to go beyond our borders for education. It opens them up to new ideas, cultures, and opportunities that can benefit not only them but also our communities,” he noted.

He hailed Governor Wisley Rotich, for launching a new educational initiative dubbed the Pepea Student Program, designed to support talented students in accessing higher education opportunities abroad.

The initiative aims to empower youth and provide them with the tools to compete globally.

Fr. Kiptoo concluded by calling for joint efforts among parents, government, and other stakeholders to uplift education standards in the region.

“Education not only changes lives but also drives economic growth. We must all work together to ensure no child is left behind,” he said.

The renewed focus on education comes at a time when local leaders are increasingly linking academic investment to long-term development goals in Elgeyo Marakwet.
