Residents of Kiplokyi in Bomet Central have unanimously endorsed the planned establishment of a Bomet University campus in the area, during a well-attended public participation forum held in the area.

The proposed campus, which will specialize in Health Sciences courses, is set to be hosted at Kiplokyi Girls High School — marking a first for the region in offering tertiary education focused on medical training.

Former Bomet Central MP Ronald Tonui, who addressed the gathering, confirmed that he had already engaged the Commission for University Education (CUE), which has approved the initiative.

“I held discussions with CUE, and they have given the green light for this campus to be opened,” said Tonui. “This is a major milestone for Kiplokyi and Bomet County at large.”

Tonui, who also serves as an official with the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), pledged to relay the community’s support to the university principal and continue lobbying for the speedy establishment of the campus.

“This institution will not only bring higher education closer to our children but also spur economic growth in the region,” he added.

Residents expressed excitement and urged the relevant stakeholders to fast-track the implementation process, noting that they had waited for many years for such a development.

“We are more than ready. Our students will now have an opportunity to pursue medical courses right here at home,” said Jane Rotich, a local parent. “It’s a dream come true.”

Another resident, Samuel Kipkurui, echoed the sentiment, adding, “This campus will uplift our community economically. We support it fully and hope the construction and rollout will begin immediately.”

The Bomet University campus in Kiplokyi is expected to serve students from across the county and neighboring regions, significantly improving access to higher education in health-related fields.
