Kericho Women Rep urges caution amid rising road accidents in Kipsitet

Kericho County Woman Representative, Beatrice Kemei.

Kericho County Woman Representative Beatrice Kemei has called on motorists across the county to exercise caution and adhere to traffic rules.

Speaking in Kipsitet, she expressed her concern over the growing number of accidents along the Kericho-Kisumu highway, particularly in the Kipsitet area, most of which she says are preventable.

“We are deeply saddened by the recent accident that claimed six lives, including a young pupil. These are tragedies we can and must prevent,” she said.” Drivers must be more cautious, and traffic rules enforcement must take course,” she emphasized.

Kemei also appealed to relevant government agencies to consider constructing speed bumps in the area, noting that the absence of such measures has made the road increasingly dangerous.

“The lack of bumps in Kipsitet has contributed significantly to the rise in accidents. We are urging the authorities to act swiftly and install speed control measures,” she added.

She noted that Kipsitet hosts several schools, making it all the more important for drivers and road users to be vigilant and responsible, further pointing out that it is a major contributor to the national revenue and therefore deserves priority when it comes to road safety interventions.

“Kipsitet brings in substantial revenue for the government. The safety of its residents and road users should not be overlooked,” she said.

Residents of Kipsitet have continued to push for the redesignation and improvement of the Kericho-Kisumu highway, citing increased accidents and loss of lives.
