Perennial water shortages at Kapnyasimba Comprehensive School in Sotik, Bomet County, have come to an end following the completion of a borehole by a non-governmental organization.
For years, both learners and teachers at the school have relied on polluted water from the nearby Sisse River, raising health concerns and fears of disease outbreaks. The new borehole now offers a sustainable supply of clean and safe water for the school and the surrounding community.
“This project will go a long way in ensuring access to clean and safe water for both learners and residents,” said Project Coordinator Betty Kerubo during the official handover ceremony at the school. “We used modern technology during the drilling process to ensure efficiency and long-term reliability.”
Kerubo also revealed that the initiative is part of a broader campaign aimed at improving water access in schools across the country. “Similar projects are ongoing in 30 other schools. We are working closely with various partners to make this a reality,” she added.
Kapnyasimba School Principal Selina Tonui could not hide her excitement over the development.

“For many years, we have depended on water from the Sisse River, which is often dirty and unsafe. This borehole is a life-changing development for our school,” she said.
The joy was equally shared by students and parents, who turned out in large numbers to witness the occasion. Many commended the NGO for its timely intervention.
“This borehole will not only help improve hygiene at the school but also benefit the local community,” said Ruth Kiprotich, a parent. “We are very grateful.”
With the new borehole in place, the school expects improvements in both learning conditions and health standards for its students — a long-awaited relief for a community that has struggled with water scarcity for decades.
