The Nandi County Government has disbursed KSh 74 million in bursaries aimed at supporting secondary school students and learners with special needs, in a bold move to boost access to inclusive education.
A total of 7,911 students are set to benefit under the first cohort of the bursary recipients, with funds targeted at easing the financial burden on families and enhancing learning opportunities for vulnerable children.
Speaking during the official launch of the disbursement, Governor Stephen Sang said the process had undergone a rigorous legal and administrative vetting, which contributed to the delay.
“This disbursement is more than just financial aid — it is an investment in dreams, opportunities, and a brighter, more inclusive future for our children,” Governor Sang stated.
He emphasised that education remains a top priority for his administration, and called on the National Government to partner with counties in funding such initiatives to reach more students in need.

“If we are truly committed to the future of our country, then every child, regardless of background or ability, must be given the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive,” he added.
The bursary initiative reflects the county’s broader commitment to delivering inclusive and quality education, especially for special needs learners, who are often left behind in mainstream funding programs.
Governor Sang also urged beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunity provided.
“To the students receiving this support — use it wisely. Focus on your education, pursue excellence, and know that your community believes in your potential,” he said.
Parents and education stakeholders in attendance welcomed the initiative, praising the county for prioritising education and calling for its sustainability.
The bursary program is expected to continue annually, with future expansions to include more students and institutions, depending on budget allocations and partnerships.
