Jepkosgey Chemoiwa, a mathematics and physics teacher at Emining Boys High School in Mogotio, Baringo County, has won the 2025 African Union Continental Best Teacher Award, a prestigious recognition presented by UNESCO’s International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa.
The award ceremony will be held next month in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where Chemoiwa will be celebrated as one of Africa’s most outstanding educators.

The African Union created the Teacher Prize to recognize the central role of teachers in achieving Agenda 2063’s education and skills revolution, outlined in the Continental Education Strategy for Africa (CESA 16–25). Teacher development is the strategy’s first objective, reflecting the AU’s commitment to restoring the status of the profession.
