The case of a boy allegedly assaulted by a Catholic priest at Mugango Parish has taken a dramatic twist after the child’s mother came out in defence of the clergyman.
One Betty, a teacher at St. Peter’s Primary School, said her son was injured while escaping after a fistfight with his elder brother. She explained that the parish priest, Fr. JohnPaul, was only attempting to discipline the boys when the younger one fled through the fence and sustained injuries.
Her statement contradicts earlier reports that accused the priest of direct assault, sparking public outrage and calls for justice.
The boy had been taken to Chelimo Hospital for treatment as investigations commenced.

Witnesses, including the school deputy headteacher Alfred Ngetich and church catechist Joel Langat, backed the mother’s account, saying the incident was exaggerated and the priest unfairly targeted.
Mugango Sub-Location Senior Assistant Chief Richard Rotich confirmed investigations are ongoing and cautioned local youth against spreading unverified claims on social media. Even so, members of the public are calling for a speedy and impartial investigation to ascertain what really happened and if there is a cover-up.
