Review of CPG on course with KNUT actively involved

The review of the current career progression guidelines (CPG) is on course with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for the first time engaging Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) in coming up with teacher responsive framework. This was revealed by KNUT National Deputy Treasurer Kennedy Nyamwada as he presided over Nandi East/Tinderet KNUT  branch Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Our Lady of Peace Girls High School in Nandi hills.

The meeting, well attended by County and Regional KNUT leadership, commended the commission under the acting CEO for engaging the union in pertinent issues affecting the welfare of the teachers. Speaker after speaker castigated incidences where teachers are given transfers punitively. They said any transfer should be humane and consultative in approach.

On promotion, the KNUT brigade implored the government to ensure that funding is increased to enable the commission promote many teachers who have stagnated for decades. They also vein called for expeditious entrenchment of the presidential working report on education and reforms to facilitate transformation of primary schools into comprehensive status.

The funding brigade further made their opposition clear on the proposal of devolving education, arguing that county governments in their current state will run down education as it has done in Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) and the health sector. The former Prime Minister Raila Odinga had called for devolving education upto secondary level during the just concluded devolution conference.

The AGM was attended by high-powered delegates from the National Executive Council including; Alfred Rop, Sammy Bor and Josohat Serem. The Rift Valley leadership was led by John Koech. Executive secretaries were also in attendance including, Misoi(Nandi South), Ann Cheruiyot(Kericho) and John Cheberi(Marakwet). Nandi East/Tindiret branch is ably under the stewardship of the First National Trustee, Bonface Kemei Tenai-Chesiboi.
