The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has released a total of ksh9.46 billion to support 309,178 students in universities.
In a statement released by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, the amount comprises of Kshs5.76 billion for tuition fees and Kshs3.7billion student upkeep.
The CS called on students to check their HELB portals to confirm receipt of the funds and access detailed information regarding their individual HELB loan accounts.
Ogamba stated that the government will continue to provide the requisite funding to ensure that higher education remains accessible and affordable and that no student is left behind on account of financial limitations.

The release of the funds comes after the government announced a significant reduction in university fees for all academic programmes in public institutions.
The new directive which was arrived at after months of consultations with the public, students, and higher education stakeholders, takes effect on September 1, 2025 and applies to both first-year and continuing students.
The public institutions are also required to update their admission and finance portals to reflect the revised rates.
