The 2025 East Africa Games Rugby competition kicked off on Friday, 15th August at Kakamega Bullring with schools from across the region battling for top honors in both the Rugby Sevens and Fifteens categories.
On Friday, 15th August, Vihiga High School defeated Namilyango College 20–15 in the Fifteens, Upper Hill School overcame Jinja SS 26–19, while Kisii School beat Kings College Budo 34–12. In the Sevens, Koyonzo Boys dominated Makerere College 52–0, Bwake Boys thrashed St. Mary’s Kisubi 49–0, London College narrowly beat Mbarara High 14–12, and Saint Peters Mumias edged Bwake Boys 19–14 in one of the day’s tight contests.
Saturday, 16th August, saw Bungoma High secure a 38–0 win against Gitisi TSS before beating Koyonzo Boys 19–7. St. Peters Mumias crushed Makerere College 42–12 while Bwake Boys powered past London College 38–5. In the Fifteens, All Saints Embu defeated Busoga College Mwiri 27–3, Jinja SS beat Namilyango 13–3, and Vihiga High edged Upper Hill 15–8.
On Sunday, 17th August, Kisii School lost 13–10 to All Saints Embu in the Fifteens. Kings College Budo beat Busoga College Mwiri 37–8, while Upper Hill defeated Namilyango 34–8. In the Sevens, Bwake Boys recorded big wins over Makerere College (47–0) and Gitisi TSS (57–0). Bungoma High drew 12–12 with St. Peters Mumias, while Koyonzo Boys beat Mbarara High 33–0.

Fixtures on Monday, 18th August, include Bungoma High against Bwake Boys, Koyonzo Boys facing St. Peters Mumias, and Jinja SS taking on St. Theresa in the Sevens. In the Fifteens, Jinja SS will play Vihiga High, All Saints Embu meet Kings College Budo, and Busoga College Mwiri face Kisii School.
On Tuesday, 19th August, the Rugby Fifteens semifinals will be played between group winners and runners-up. Rugby Sevens fixtures include Bungoma High against Makerere College, Koyonzo Boys against London College, and St. Mary’s Kisubi against St. Peters Mumias.
The tournament concludes on Thursday, 21st August, with Fifteens classification matches, playoffs, and the final to decide the regional champions.
