Kericho Teachers to face murder charges in Schoolboy’s tragic Death

St. Teresa Primary School teachers are set to face murder charges in the tragic death of schoolboys three years ago.

After nearly three years of unanswered grief, justice has begun to stir for the family of 14 year old Enock Kipkoech, who died under suspicious circumstances at St. Teresa Primary School in Kipchimchim, Kericho County.

On September 27, 2022, Enock left home in perfect health. By evening, his lifeless body was found hanging in a school bathroom. School officials insisted it was suicide, but his mother, Emily Chebet, and father, Dr. Richard Siele, refused to accept that narrative.

Their long wait for truth culminated on July 28, 2025, when Kericho’s Senior Resident Magistrate Japhet Bii ruled that teachers Haron Koskei and Philemon Koskei were criminally responsible for the boy’s death.

The court cited unlawful physical punishment and gross negligence, calling the incident “brutal and deeply staged.”

Key testimonies revealed the boy was severely beaten during exam day, with images confirming deep injuries. The court noted that the hanging scene appeared manipulated to resemble suicide, raising fresh questions about accountability within the school system.

Disturbingly, teacher Haron Koskei showed no remorse and admitted to caning Enock with a stick, despite lacking a valid Teachers Service Commission number for over a decade.

The ruling now paves the way for murder charges, with the Director of Public Prosecutions expected to act on the court’s recommendation.

For Emily, the courtroom verdict validated her quiet struggle for justice.
