The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has reshuffled its county directors by transferring some to new stations and appointing one to the position of full director.
In the new changes, Garissa County Director, Dr Dorothy Chonyo, swaps places with her Narok County counterpart, Debson Megiri. Chonyo was moved to Garissa not long before from the TSC headquarters, where she was serving in the Staffing department. She had gone to replace Ibrahim Adan, who had been promoted to become the Regional Director for North-Eastern. The latter has since retired.
Megiri, on the other hand, had earlier been the Kilifi County Director after being promoted to the position from deputy director in Nandi and Kilifi. He served in the latter county for a short while before being transferred to Narok.
Also affected by the changes is Hussein Abubakar, the Vihiga County Director, who will proceed to Makueni County in a similar capacity.
He replaces Grace Mwangi, who is heading for retirement. Abubakar, a long-serving field officer, has served in numerous counties, including Kiambu and Tharaka Nithi, among others.

The TSC has also made one notable appointment to the county director in the name of Everlyne Chemjor. She has been promoted to a full director after serving as a deputy director in Nandi for a short spell. Education News has learnt that a handover ceremony was conducted today under the supervision of the outgoing Western Regional Director, Joseph Mugele.
Chemjor was part of a team interviewed and shortlisted by the commission for the position of County Director. However, it was not fortunate enough to be appointed straight to the slot. She had to cool her heels for some time before her great moment came.
Meanwhile, Mugele is expected to officially hand over the office to his deputy tomorrow pending the appointment of a substantive holder. Mugele exits the commission after attaining his retirement age. He was previously a senior director at the powerful Staffing docket at the TSC headquarters before being deployed to the field.
Following the arising vacancy in the Western region, intense lobbying is underway from directors both at the headquarters and in the field to fill the coveted position. it is understood that politicians have also joined the fray in trying to influence who occupies the slot which attracts some reasonable clout in the teaching service in the field.
At the same time, TSC Acting CEO Evaleen Mitei has appointed Gilbert Yegon as her Personal Assistant (PA). He replaces Jane Kimathi, who retired recently after serving as PA to the immediate former CEO , Nancy Macharia. Yegon has served as the Senior Deputy Director at the ICT department for sometime before being later appointed the acting Director of the directorate for a short period. Insiders have hailed the decision to pick him for the job as the right pick for he is credited to command some significant respect among staff at the TSC headquarters.
On the other hand, Njung’e Njuguna, who has been the alternate PA to Macharia, has been deployed to the Administration department to perform new duties.
